Abstract: The impact of the length of service period on some reproductive performances and indicators of milk production of Holstein cows was studied. The increase
of service period, in the experimental group by 59.7 days (from 92.1 days to 151.8 days) contributed to the increase of calving interval by 64.2 days, duration of lactation by 54.1 days and the productivity of milk on the full lactation with 600,1kg (P<0.01), compared to the control group. The duration of the service period and calving interval increased at a faster rate than the milk production increased for the full lactation, if the length of the service period increased by 64.8% (P<0.001), the calving interval by 17.4 % (P<0.001), the milk production by only 8.8%. Following the increase in the service period, the annual milk losses for one cow in the fourth lactation amounted to 928.1 kg of milk per calendar year, for each day of sterility 15.1 kg; the number of calves resulting from 100 cows per year decreased by 13.6%. Insemination of cows no later than 3 months after calving is a necessary condition for increasing the reproduction rate of animals on the farm and increasing the economic efficiency of the industry.
